Hillcrest Hospital has been named one of the Nation’s 100 Top Hospitals according to Thomson Healthcare’s National Benchmarks for Success study based on the highest hospital-wide performance. This is the 11th year that Hillcrest has achieved this honor making it one of only five hospitals in the nation to earn this achievement. Hillcrest is also the only “Teaching Hospital” in Northeast Ohio to have earned this honor this year.
Hillcrest achieved this distinction based on a national benchmark composite scorecard compared with 3,000 of its peers throughout the United States. This award is based on objective statistical performance measurement across five critical areas: clinical processes and outcomes; patient safety; patient perception of care; operational efficiency and financial stability.
“One of the most important aspects of this award is that it measures the overall quality of care which is the result of the incredible dedication and efforts of our medical staff and employees,” explained Jeffrey Leimgruber, FACHE, president at Hillcrest Hospital. “This recognizes the contribution of each of these individuals who help improve quality, patient outcomes and safety, increase efficiency and reduce costs. It honors the teamwork and culture of Hillcrest Hospital that works together to put patients first.”
Research has shown that hospitals that win this award remain very high performers in the year after winning – usually within the top 20 percent of all hospitals. Research has also shown that hospitals that win this award three or more times have particularly high levels of performance through many years.
Having a 100 Top Hospital in the community means that:
- Patients can feel comfortable that a 100 Top Hospital is performing well against national standards.
- Patients are less likely to have a complication, adverse patient safety event or die unnecessarily
- Patients are more likely to receive care efficiently at a reasonable comparative cost
- The community can rely on the hospital as a well-managed major employer that will continue to invest in newer technology and services needed by the community
